So, i've been back for a few days and have only recently caught up w/ email and now posting pictures and information on my site. I've been busy w/ work and also reading a book and warming up to spending as much time on the computer as i do.
Our spring break trip was great. We were going to go to Ashville, but the 3 friends we were going to see were not going to be there, and thus we decided to just go camping close to home at the Red River Gorge. I'm glad we did, because it was really COLD, as we knew it would be... The first day it was nice and warm. We donned packs and started hiking... we quickly lost the trail and then quickly wished we were still on one. With the sun going down, we couldn't find a way to get up a wall of cliffs, seperating us from the trail (we assume) and also higher-ground camping. We were fearing rain, as it was reported to have a 90% chance of rain the next day. After 4+ hours of unintentionally off-trail hiking, we made our way back to the car (the cliffs formed a big circle). At the car, we drove to look at the developed campsites, but they were nasty and too developed (and $12) so we decided to drive till we thought of something. On the way, we found a great parking lot inside the park, a great trail, and a great camping site (already w/ a firepit). It was, admitedly, within sight of the car (the car alarm worked from the tent) but it was also almost dark and the highest ground around. Laughing at ourselves we camped there. It got cold as soon as the sun went down and Nova was nervous. She ended up not sleeping quietly till she was IN my sleeping bag. We got up early and hiked for 6 more hours (without packs this time) as we decided that extended camping would wait till it was warmer. We could have continued, but it wouldn't have been fun.
So, we also got to go to Simon's 3rd Birthday party on Saturday. He went to the newport aquarium on Friday, but friends and family came in Saturday (we crashed at their place Friday night). Simon is REALLY cute and got lots of good loot, including a kids, toy, chainsaw[1]. He got 3 kids games from us (board games champions that we are). Molly made simon a train cake and everyone loved getting their kid time in. Seeing them is always a reminder to us of how much we really want to have kids sometime, but just not yet. (so much commitment).
The only other unusual thing recently is the newly established mowhawk. It's not only a decent mohawking job (thanks to anita) but it's has made me more outgoing, and (believe it or not) better at ultimate. I can't keep it forever (next time i go into the office, it has to come off) but it's a lot of fun, until then. There's something wonderful about being super-polite and having a mohawk. it's also a great people-filter, so i don't have to deal with whatever portion of the population that can't deal with the mohawk.
