information from an email, from cathy

Well, why Pinewood Cabins and not Wits End Resort? or the National Park Cabins at Buffalo Point? We were counting noses and came up with 33 adults and 2 babies (Molly's a big girl, now!) We wanted it all....togetherness, view, activities, canoeing, and the great outdoors. We personally visited and eliminated many because they weren't large enough to accommodate us, and then we eliminated again because those that were large enough were run down and possibly infested. We CHOSE Pinewood Cabins because they are meticulous! Our 6 cabins will all be together and a short uphill walk to a BBQ Pavilion, a downhill walk to their pool. Pinewood Cabins, within walking distance of the courthouse square from historic, downtown Mountainview , oozes hand-hewn rusticity; 870-269-5900, www.pinewoodcabins.com. Best place for a cappuccino: the Old Bay Cafe, right on Courtsquare. Best place for a real drink? In your room—Stone County is dry.

extra info

Each of the 6 cabins we have reserved are up the hill across the highway from the office, facing each other. Each has a porch swing and other chairs. The 2 BR each have their own small BBQ's. In all cabins, the bedrooms all have doors, and the fold-out sofa/futon is full size. The kitchens all have coffee pots, can openers, ice trays. Tax rate for motels is 11%.

There are two pavillions for groups. One is smaller and closer to us, but we have reserved the larger one back behind the office. It has 2 big BBQs, ceiling fans and lights, with a counter all across the end on either side of the sink. It has four 6' tables which should accommodate our group on Thursday.

[[CABIN ARRANGEMENTS AND PRICES]] Kids under 12 are free. Consider bringing a cot or air mattress if you're into togetherness and tight on finances. Bring PJ's that cover your bod--erect a divider if your spouse is "shy"-- It's each guy on his own to find buddies to bunk up with in each cabin. I suggest starting NOW in case we need more cabins--but let's try to fill the ones we have first.

We have 4 2BR cabins reserved: #s 42, 43, 46 & 47. The price is $120/night based on 4 people ($5/additional adult/night). Cabins have two separate bedrooms, two bathrooms, with fireplace(ha!), well furnished kitchenette, with fridge and stove. One queen bed, 2 full beds plus a double futon...could fit as many as 8 (or more?)

  • Note: Sue, Patricia and Cathy with their spouses + our Dad can fit comfortably in 1 cabin--(that's 7)--we'll take #42 to get the ball rolling! Who's next? (Just put people in beds--communicate w/family!)

We also have 2 1BR cabins reserved: #s 44 & 45 for $82/night based on 2 people ($5/additional adult/night). These have 1 queen, 1 bath w/jacuzzi, kitchenette, plus gas log fireplace plus a double futon...could fit as many as 4 (or more with cots, air mattresses, etc.)

More Cabins: Based on availability, (you may want to call), the next closest cabins to our group are all 1 BRs # 30 & 29,for $82, and cabin suites: (these are "down the hill" from our cabin group, and rooms are more like a motel) # 28 w/king bed and jacuzzi for $72, and then #s 27 to 21 w/2 doubles for $67.
