Remeber, the newest is on top, so read from the bottom if you want it to be in order.... Basically, i just wanted to post this communicaiton thread between me and a family member and see if it sparks futher conversation. I honestly would like to learn... but i'm already QUITE skeptical.

I wrote a long letter; mostly rambling about my opinions and point of view... I started gathering data and citing sources... started reading, and I ended up reading obviously biased propaganda (on both sides). I'm sure I would tend to favor the obvious bias on one side, and you the other... but what it really comes down to, for me, is... I don't know what is really going on. I don't trust our government, our media, etc. to be correct. I get conflicting information everywhere I turn, and I unsuccessfully try to figure out the "truth". I really only know enough not to blindly believe what I've been told.
I'm not sending my other letter. I'm simply saying that Islam is not an enemy. Christianity is also not an enemy. Zealots of either group (and others) frighten me, but I can not prejudice myself against a religion, culture, etc. because if I did something like that... I would become my own enemy.
In the words of one of my favorite musicians (Dan Bern) :

I don't think that you got THEMAIN POINT. Those are the bastards who are killing our young peole _ your age _ and I don't think that hatred or segregation has anything to do with it. Think about it. I think the main point I take from this email is to remember segregation and hate... classifying people and acting on those classifications...
It is something I try to avoid.
